There is no homework from Ms. Greer for the week of April 21 - April 25.

BCSD e-mail

Homework for Michael and Christopher from Ms. Greer: Story Map below on something that you read during the week. Christopher and Michael, your spelling words are at the bottom of this page.

Language Arts Homework

Spelling lists have changed to include some review words from previously studied vowel patterns.

The front cover page indicates the following and has a chart for the reading assignment. If your child didn't bring the homework home, this can be completed on a plain sheet of paper.

1. Read (or be read to) Tuesday - Thursday for 20-30 minutes each day. Write down what page you start on and what page you finish. Also, write down how many minutes you read. Write a little description of what you read.

2. Write each spelling word three times each. Check that your child knows what each word is and that they are not just randomly writing.I usually indicate some way that the spelling words can be written in a creative way. Now that it is nearing winter and is very cold, perhaps students can draw a snowman and write spelling words in each snowball. Another way to help remember what letters are consonants and which are vowels, I suggested writing the words in two different colors (one color for consonants, another color for vowels [a, e, i, o, u].

3. Practice reading the High Frequency words for this week's stories. This will need to be turned in with a parent signature verifying that the students practiced reading the words. Students will be tested periodically to check their progress on learning the sight words. The high frequency words that are associated with the stories for the week are listed below spelling words.

4. Complete a story map from one of the stories you read during the week for your reading log. The story map should include:

What type of book did you read:

Circle one: Fiction (not true) Non-Fiction (true)

What was the topic of the book (main idea)?:

What was your favorite part of the story? :

Draw a little sketch of something from the book.

There are four different groups for Spelling. Below each list is given with students first names. Spelling words are directly linked to the stories for the week. 4-14-08
